FIG Executive Committee and FIG Council news

Monday, 17 May 2010

The FIG Executive Committee and FIG Council have met in Chiba (JPN) covering major topics concerning the world gymnastics community...

Some of the topics discussed included;

The Council has handed organisation of the 15th World Gymnaestrada in 2015 to the Finnish Gymnastics Federation SVOLI. Helsinki, capital city of Finland, making it an absolute majority on the first vote. Other cities in contention were Lillestroem (NOR), Maspalomas (ESP) and Göteborg (SWE).

On a need basis, the height of the Uneven Bars may be increased to 10 cm in the future to accommodate the height of certain female gymnasts.

Athletes' Commission members will convene with their respective gymnasts parallel to the 2010 World Championships.

Delegates have ratified a proposal lodged by organisers of the 2012 Olympic Games in London to relocate Rhythmic Gymnastic events to the Wembley Arena in North London.

The Executive Committee has also approved a rescheduling of the 2011 World Championships in France from Lille to Montpellier.

As of January 1, 2011, time of flight will be factored in when determining scores in Trampoline competitions. The Code of Points has been updated accordingly.

Upon proposal by the Executive Board, the Council ratified the introduction of Reference Judges for FIG world championship events. The positive feedback that resulted from a number of trial runs was the basis for this decision. Reference Judges will be present at Artistic and Rhythmic world championships in 2010, Trampoline in 2011 and at the Olympic Games in 2012. All other disciplines will see Reference Judges added to their ranks as of January 1, 2013.
